STAFFING OF THIS POSITION CONTINGENT UPON AVAILABILITY OF CITY FUNDS This position requires some night and weekend work hours.
Location: Roosevelt HS (Data, ETA) Work Schedule: 12 Months Work Type: Regular Full-Time Exempt: Yes REASONS TO JOIN NEISD TEACHER/LIBRARIAN COMPENSATION : Salaries for new classroom teachers and librarians are based on the salary ranges below (10-month work schedule) Minimum 0 Years 5 Years 10 Years 15 years 20 Years Max 25 Years $57,000 $58,600 $60,550 $62,350 $64,650 $66,400 In accordance with House Bill 3, the ranges above include additional compensation for classroom teachers with more than five (5) years of experience.
All salary ranges are adopted annually by the Board of Trustees.
The District ensures salary placement for new hires will be based on verified years of experience according to the Commissioner's Rules on Creditable Years of Service .
These ranges should not be used to project salary amounts for subsequent years.
In addition, teachers and librarians may qualify for the following stipends: Advanced Degree Stipends Performance and Other Supplemental Stipends Bilingual & ESL Stipends **IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING CALCULATION OF PAY: The annual pay for this position is pro-rated based on the effective date of the assignment** OTHER INFORMATION: This is a year-round position.
Workday hours are Monday through Friday 12pm to 9pm; Work days and hours vary; Tuesday - Saturday workweek; weekend availability required EDUCATION : Master's Degree in Library Science, Library and Information Studies/Science or Information Studies/Science from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited university.
No substitution for Education allowed High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY : Under general supervision, is responsible for the direct provision of library services to young adults (teenagers, aged 13 to 18 years); planning and facilitation of developmentally appropriate library programming; advising and instructing young adults in their use and evaluation of library materials and information sources; conducting outreach to young adults in community venues including schools; fostering young adult participation in the development of library programming and services; advocating for teens in the library organization; providing reference and reader's advisory instruction and assistance.
Actively participates in library system workgroups and committees.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.
Assists the general public with information regarding library materials and equipment.
Promotes teen library services directly to young adults through school visits, library tours, etc.
, and through engaging their parents, educators, and other youth-serving community partners.

Designs, implements, and evaluates the promotion of teen services in the library, schools, youth-serving agencies, and the community at large.
3.
Formally and informally instructs young adults in basic information gathering, research skills, and information literacy skills - including those necessary to evaluate and use electronic information sources - to develop life-long learning habits.
4.
Designs, implements, and evaluates programs and services within the framework of the Library's teen services mission and the public assets libraries represent, with young adult involvement whenever possible.
5.
Keeps up to date with popular culture and technological advances that interest young adults.
6.
Demonstrates a commitment to professionalism and ethical behavior.
7.
Answers reference questions and performs readers' advisory services.
8.
Trains staff and volunteers in policies, procedures, and operation of various automated systems.
9.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: • Knowledge of fundamental public library principles, methods, materials, and practices.
• Knowledge of cataloging principles and techniques.
• Knowledge of basic library reference tools and services.
• Knowledge of professional library publications and the literature of librarianship.
• Skill in utilizing a personal computer and associated software programs.
• Ability to operate a computer keyboard and other basic office equipment.
• Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with those contacted in the course of work.
• Ability to handle all physical requirements of the job.
