* Position: Instructional/Educational Aide Position Qualifications - High School Diploma or equivalent; At least two years of college preferred.
Preferably, have worked with diverse populations within the education field and have experience in tutoring or mentoring students in subject areas.
Certifications and Licenses - TEA Educational Aide Certification preferred Skills and Abilities • Ability to understand oral and written instruction • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with others • Working computer knowledge and the ability to use a variety of software programs • Above average leadership and interpersonal skills • Strong communication skills Position Summary • Assist teacher in preparation and management of classroom activities and administrative requirements • Must be able to work under the supervision of teacher(s) and Principal.
Major Job Duties and Responsibilities • following responsibilities are part of the role and function of the Instructional Assistant • Promote the mission and philosophy of Southwest Preparatory School • Become familiar with and apply appropriate classroom management techniques including Capturing Kids’ Hearts methods and procedures • Guide individuals and groups of students to develop education plans and career awareness • Assist teachers/students in setting and charting goals to promote academic success as well as measuring and tracking results • Assist in orientation for new students • Demonstrate knowledge of the subject matter • Communicate professionally and courteously with students, faculty and staff members and parents at all times • Maintain a positive working relationship with teachers, administration, and parents • Interpret assessments and other appraisal results appropriately and communicate to school personnel, students, and their parents • Organize materials and adapt lessons for the specific academic needs of the students or assist teachers in preparing instructional materials • Manage and instruct students in a laboratory situation if called upon to do so in a temporary or long term situation • Utilize computers effectively in the performance of assigned duties and responsibilities • Assist students with course selections that are the most challenging and appropriate for graduation requirements and higher education/career plans • Help maintain a neat and orderly classroom • Help teachers with administrative records and prepare required reports • Maintain classroom and manage students when the teacher is called away • Conduct instructional exercises assigned by the teachers; work with individual students or small groups • Help supervise students throughout the day, inside and outside the classroom • Keep teachers informed of special needs or problems of individual students • Participate in staff development training programs to improve job performance • Participate in faculty meetings and special events as assigned • Evaluate student's progress and provides meaningful feedback and positive reinforcement as directed • Respond to directives from teachers and administrative staff in an efficient and timely manner • Assist administration, counselor, and teachers in the review of student attendance and behavior issues related to overall student success Minor Job Duties and Responsibilities Performs other duties as assigned Working Conditions The physical demands and work environment described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, sit, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate a computer and phone, and other equipment utilized by this position.
The person in this position frequently communicates with students, teachers, and administrators and must be able to exchange accurate information in these situations.
Light to moderate lifting is required.
Regular, predictable attendance is required.
Noise level is consistently moderate but can be heavy during athletic activities, passing periods, and lunchtimes.
