*PRIMARY PURPOSE:* Direct and manage assigned areas of instructional program and campus operations.
Oversee assigned student activities and services.
*ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:* * Oversee campus operations in the principal’s absence for the well-being of the school.
* Reinforce expectations for staff performance with regard to instructional strategies and classroom management.
* Foster collegiality team building, and a positive environment among staff members.
Encourage their active involvement in the decision-making process.
* Take a leadership role in planning activities and implementing programs to ensure attainment of the school’s mission.
* Assist principal in interviewing, selecting, and orientation new staff.
* Participate in development of campus improvement plans and communicate effectively with staff, parents and community members.
* Work with faculty and students to develop a student discipline management system that results in positive student behavior and enhances the school climate.
* Ensure that school rules are uniformly applied and that student discipline is appropriate and equitable in accordance with the Student Code of Conduct and student handbook.
* Conduct a conference about student and school issues with parents, students, and teachers.
* Oversees reporting and monitoring of student attendance and works with staff to identify and address issues.
* Help principals develop, maintain, and use information systems to track data and monitor progress on-campus performance objectives and academic excellence indicators.
* May act as campus behavior coordinator in accordance with state laws and regulations.
* Participate as a member of the campus leadership team, building capacity in others to develop a learning organization to include professional development of staff.
* Take a leadership role in planning and scheduling of daily school activities including the development of class schedules, teacher assignments, extracurricular activity schedules, and duty schedules.
* Serve as a resource providing instructional guidance to staff based on district/campus beliefs, mission, and vision.
* Ensure that students are adequately supervised before, during, and after school including bus duty.
* Observe employee performance, record observations, and conduct evaluation conferences.
Serve as a second appraiser as needed for the designated teacher appraisal system through formal and informal observations.
* Assist in supervising paraprofessionals and substitute teachers.
* Requisition supplies, textbooks, and equipment and monitor and maintain inventory in accordance with district procedures.
* Assist in plant maintenance, safety drills, and inspections.
* Encourage and support development of innovative instructional programs, helping teachers pilot such efforts when appropriate.
Participate in program evaluation measures and make suggestions for improvements where needed.
* Promote the use of technology in the teaching/learning process.
* Articulate the school’s mission to the community and solicit its support in realizing the mission.
* Demonstrate awareness of school-community needs and initiate activities to meet those needs using appropriate and effective techniques to encourage community and parent involvement.
* Coordinate operational support services such as transportation, custodial, and cafeteria to best meet campus needs.
* Comply with district policies, state and federal laws, and regulations affecting schools.
* Follow district safety protocols and emergency procedures.
* Perform other duties as assigned.
