Position Summary
The Listening Library at the University of the Incarnate Word provides music students and faculty access to our extensive collection of music materials for study and enjoyment.
The Music Library Assistant plays a crucial role in achieving this purpose by staffing the library, cataloging and organizing materials, and promoting the use of the library.
This position is funded by the Federal Work-Study program and is open to UIW students who are approved and eligible to participate in the Federal Work-Study Program.
Essential Functions
Assisting listening library patrons with finding materials;
Supervising the use of library materials, which must remain in the listening library;
Managing the use of library equipment;
Cataloging and organizational task as assigned;
Communicate openly with supervisors about assignments completed;
Ensuring the space is kept clean and presentable;
Helping to promote listening library usage through special initiatives;
Perform other duties as assigned
Qualifications
Knowledge Skills and Abilities
Ability to work with minimal supervision;
Robust organizational capability;
Solid writing aptitude;
Extensive experience with Microsoft Word and Excel;
Ability to work effectively with individuals from diverse communities and cultures;
Employee shall adhere to all applicable rules and regulations of the University, the Conference, and the NCAA.
Required Education
A current UIW undergraduate student who has completed MUSI 3341 with a B- or higher grade is approved and eligible to participate in the Federal Work-Study program.
Required Work Experience
No prior work experience is required; training will be available for duties about the department as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Understanding of citation formats, particularly Chicago/Turabian style;
Customer service experience;
Ability to troubleshoot in assisting patrons with research
Required Certifications, Licenses or Registrations
Work Hours
At least 6 hours per week between 9:00 a.
m.
and 5:00 p.
m.
Possibility of Saturday shift if demand allows.
Physical Demands
Ability to sit for extended periods;
Ability to lift up to 15lbs from floor to waist;
Ability to move about campus.
