*JOB TITLE:* *Certified Advisor-Student Success* *JOB CODE:* 32934 *FLSA:* Exempt *GRADE:* S12 *JOB SUMMARY: *Performs moderate to complex work providing advising to students from entry to completion.
Responsible for implementing the academic advising strategies and achievement of student learning outcomes.
May provide services for special populations.
*ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:* * Provides advising to students and groups from entry to completion; provides career/pathway exploration and career planning.
Works with advising team utilizing case management principles.
Proactively engages with students in the case management model to access specific services.
* Provides degree plans for core, major and transfer students; implements the academic advising strategies (syllabus, Individual Education Plans, etc.
) and achievement of student career objectives.
* May support the Director in the daily operational duties (i.
e.
support of student success and advising strategic initiatives, etc.
).
* May be responsible for one or more special projects in support of student success.
* Provides recruitment and outreach services to students to include providing financial aid and scholarship guidance and assistance; may provide workshops, including but not limited to time management, study skills and test-taking strategies.
* Coordinates and implements new student orientation.
* Interprets student data and develops action plans and interventions.
Collaborates with faculty mentors to enhance achievement of student learning objectives.
* May provide services for special populations.
* Performs records management, degree and certification planning, post degree, supports course substitution and equivalency process; supports the management of college applications and transcript process.
* Evaluates and interprets high school and college transcripts and test scores; may proctor assessment exams.
Informs and conducts job readiness and placement.
* Informs faculty and supports students in early alert.
* Supports graduation initiatives through communication, activities and building awareness.
* Serves as liaison between students, staff, faculty and administrators: provides referral services for students: assesses and coordinates services and streamlines processes in a changing environment.
* Promotes Strategies of Behavioral Intervention (SOBI) to provide safety for students, staff, faculty and visitors.
* Takes the lead in the delivery of special projects.
* May supervise work study students and assists in the training of new employees.
* Performs other duties as assigned.
*MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:* * Bachelor's degree or a combination of relevant experience, education and training that equates to the required degree.
* Two year of related experience, preferably in a college setting.
*PREFERRED EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:* * Master’s degree in a related field.
* Four years of related experience.
*LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:* * Must possess CAEL level 3 case management training certification or able to obtain training within 12 months of hire.
* Must be certified in key competencies as defined by Student Success leadership within 12 months of hire.
*KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:* * Knowledge of student characteristics and campus/college programs.
* Knowledge of programs and focus areas in the Alamo Institutes.
* Skill in utilizing a personal computer and relevant software programs.
* Skill in communication and team-building across all areas of the college.
* Ability to prepare/present programs to groups from various backgrounds.
* Ability to communicate clearly and effectively, both verbally and in writing.
* Ability to supervise, train and evaluate staff.
* Ability to meet work schedules and work independently.
* Ability to represent the college effectively in a variety of district and community settings.
* Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with staff, faculty, and the public.
* Ability to use Online Student Records Management Systems (i.
e.
, GPS or Banner).
* Ability to work independently, follow established procedures and regulations, and use discretion and judgment.
* Ability to multi-task and work under conditions of high stress and high volume during peak periods.
* Ability to work in a case management process environment.
*SUPERVISION EXERCISED: *None *PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS: *Work is performed in an office environment with no exposure to hazardous or unpleasant conditions.
Physical demands are usually limited to sitting or standing in one location much of the time.
Some stooping, lifting or carrying lightweight objects may be required.
