Work Days: Monday - FridayLocation: 2018 Ave B, San Antonio, Tx, 78215 Summary: Provides high quality English as a Second Language (ESL) instruction and culturally appropriate client-centered services to newly arrived adult refugees from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Able to work in a fast pace environment.
Teaches classes throughout the community, to clients’ needing to learn to become self-sufficient, visits client homes, leads public transit classes, advocates on behalf of client educational needs, and maintains client case files with thorough documentation.
Position Responsibilities: *Creates and executes engaging lesson plans, classroom activities, and supplemental materials based on mandated ESL curriculum, with a focus on developing client language skills for the goal of self-sufficiency.
Able to work in a diverse classroom setting with people from various countries and language levels.
*Will primarily conduct classes through an online medium from the work site, and will aid students in overcoming barrier to accessing online class.
*Will aid in in-person classes if necessary.
*Participates in outreach to new clients via by phone, or home visits, face to face registration, completing a needs assessment, and pre & post testing as needed.
*Lead and conduct transit classes to teach clients how to eliminate a transportation barrier with learning to ride public transportation safely and properly.
Will also teach clients to read a bus schedule & budget for purchasing bus passes.
*Creates and maintains case file documentation in accordance with state grant requirements.
*Able to develop and use spreadsheets (Excel) to track client information and program data.
*Able to input, and retrieve data from an external online Refugee Database, to keep track of all client information and program goals.
Advocates on behalf of clients to remove barriers to service through persistent follow up on absences, communication with client and/or caseworker, and collaboration with other Refugee Social Services programs Maintains current knowledge and information on community resources related to adult education and client well-being and provides referrals for clients.

Competencies Communication Critical Thinking Customer Service Results Oriented Solution Oriented Requirements: Minimum Qualifications: Education Bachelor’s degree in education, social service or business-related field.
OR Experience Minimum of (2) years working experience in teaching and/or one year of experience working in a social services environment that demonstrates a sensitivity and appreciation for diverse cultural populations is preferred.
License and Credentials Reliable transportation Valid driver license, clean driving record Valid vehicle insurance Ability to operate an agency 12 passenger van on an as needed basis for program activities and events.
Must be 21 years of age and adhere to the CCAOSA policy, which will not allow anyone under the age of 21 to operate an agency vehicle Minimum Knowledge and Skills: Minimum of (2) years’ experience in working in a social service environment that demonstrates a sensitivity and appreciation for diverse cultural populations is preferred.
Ability to teach and present to small and large groups and assess student progress Experience with personal computer, various computer software, email and Microsoft Works, specifically Excel.
Must be detail oriented, organized, self-motivated, work well independently and on a team; Must have good written and verbal skills; Must have good critical thinking and problem solving skills.
Ability to maintain appropriate ethical boundaries and professional client relationship.
Flexibility to respond to the needs of a client population that changes daily.
Some knowledge of client case file documentation and record keeping procedures.
Ability to drive and maintain reliable personal transportation.
Able to drive a 12 passenger vehicle when necessary.
