Job Title: Itinerant Deaf Education Teacher

Primary Purpose:
To provide direct instructional intervention and consultation to facilitate the educational progress of students served in programs for students with auditory impairment.
Will travel to multiple locations including schools and homes and act as a liaison between the school and families.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
Valid Texas teaching certificate by the State Board
Bachelor’s degree from accredited university
Valid Texas Driver’s License
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Proficiency with a variety of individualized instructional techniques
Knowledge of special needs of students with auditory impairments
Knowledge of ARD process and IEP goal setting process and implementation
General knowledge of curriculum and instruction
Ability to instruct students and mange behavior
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills
Proficiency in sign language
Knowledge of auditory equipment and assistive technology
Communicate effectively in sign language, oral language and writing
Full range of motion in both hands
Experience:
At least one year teaching experience (preferred)
Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Collaborate with students, parents, and other members of staff to develop the IEP through the ARD Committee process for each student with auditory impairment in the service area.
Coordinate with Early Childhood Intervention (ECI) to provide services to families of children with auditory impairment living in the service area.
Participate in ARD Committee meetings on a regular basis.
Provide in-home services to families of deaf children ages 0-3 years.
Travel to homes and schools to provide services as determined by Individual Family Service Plan (IFSP) and ARD Committee.
Assist parents in procuring and maintaining hearing aids or amplification equipment.
Develop and maintain appropriate relationships with community, regional, and state professional agencies serving students with auditory impairments.
Coordinate with preschool programs to facilitate the transition of young students from home-based to school-based programs.
Maintain data required by Deaf Services with Texas Education Agency regarding parent/infant services.
Maintain confidentiality of students, assessment, diagnostic status, and other pertinent information.
Establish and maintain open lines of communication.
Maintain professional relationships with colleagues, students, parents and community members.
Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents with required timelines.
Demonstrated professional, ethical, and responsible behavior at all times.
Comply with district policies established by federal and state laws, State Board of Education rule, and local school district board policy.
Identify and respond to problems in a timely manner.
