College UTSA's College of Education and Human Development (COEHD) is home to approximately 2,000 students enrolled in more than 30 undergraduate and graduate degree programs.
The COEHD is comprised of six unique departments, each of which is essential to advancing its mission.

edu/ Department The Department of Interdisciplinary Learning and Teaching consists of 22 tenured and tenure/track faculty and offers undergraduate and graduate programs and certificates designed to advance the intellectual and professional development of students and faculty through research, critical reflection and dialogue, social responsibility, and transformative leadership.

Position Summary Responsibilities: Teaching, doctoral, masters, and undergraduate courses related to the area of expertise, offered at either the UTSA Downtown Campus, the Main Campus, on public school campuses, online and hybrid; advising graduate students and supervising students in field placements/internships as needed; serving on masters and doctoral committees; conducting an active research program that contributes to the national and international scholarship in the field; seeking external funding; and providing service to the department, college, university, community, and professional organizations.
Required Qualifications for Associate: (1) Earned doctorate in Literacy or related field; (2) evidence of a cohesive research agenda and publication record commensurate with rank; (3) experience with culturally and linguistically diverse populations; (4) minimum of three years full-time teaching (with teacher certification) in reading/language arts (or related area) in elementary, middle school, or high school settings; (5) experience with online teaching or use of emerging technologies in instruction; (6) minimum of 18 graduate hours in literacy (Masters and/or Doctoral level); (7) excellence in university teaching experience; and (8) evidence of successful leadership positions at department, college, or university, and professional organization(s).
Applications for associate professor level must meet University's criteria for promotion and tenure at the associate professor level.
Tenure is contingent upon Board of Regents approval, and applicants must show a demonstrated commitment.
Preferred Qualifications for Associate Rank: (1) expertise in quantitative research methods; (2) record of externally funded grants; (3) new literacies, expertise in early childhood or adolescent literacies, disciplinary literacies; family literacies, children's and young adult literature, or writing and writing instruction; (4) collaboration with schools; (5) experience chairing doctoral dissertations; and (6) experience with the National Writing Project.
