Position Title: Horticulturalist
Reports to: Golf Course Superintendent
Supervises: Assistant Horticulturalist, Gardeners
Position Summary: Will lead, manage, organize, and direct all functions associated with the
Clubhouse Grounds to provide superior landscape conditioning, safe working surroundings,
continuous employee development and a strong team environment.
Designs bedding plant
change-out to ensure clubhouse grounds are fresh and well maintained.
Essential Job Functions: *including but not limited to*
- Responsible for directing the daily activities of the Gardeners on staff.
- Requires coordination internally with the Golf Course Superintendent, Assistant
Superintendents, and Equipment Manager.
- Work directly with the Landscape Committee
- Communicate effectively with membership about landscaping practices.
- Requires communication of landscape related activities with all vendors, suppliers,
and technical support representatives.
- Will coordinate frequently with the Clubhouse Manager and Director of Tennis to
ensure the highest standard of approval by our members and guests as it applies to
the care and maintenance of our landscaping as viewed from the clubhouse, pool,
and tennis facilities.
- Responsible for the design, installation, and care of all plantings around the
clubhouse as well as golf course ornamental beds.
- Performs other appropriate tasks assigned by the Golf Course Superintendent and
General Manager.
Education and/or Experience:
Bachelor's degree in horticulture, botany, or related field
At least 1 year experience in supervisory position and 5+ years relevant experience in the
industry.
Texas pesticide applicators license or obtain within 90 days of employment.
Physical Demands: Ability to work in heat and cold for extended periods of time and perform
the following duties: standing, walking, or sitting for extended periods of time; bending,
reaching, stooping, and pushing; climbing; lifting and carrying sixty pounds; operating assigned
equipment (i.
e.
, company vehicles, golf carts, and power tools).
Environmental Conditions: Tasks are performed with exposure to diverse environmental and
safety conditions.
The position will require the use of equipment that will present noise levels
and safety concerns in the workplace which may be excessive and will require the use of ear
plugs or other safety protection from time to time.
