*Job Description*
Under general supervision the Parks Service Worker is responsible for the maintenance of City parks and right-of-ways.
This position requires operating and maintaining various types of light to heavy-duty equipment used in park and right-of-way maintenance as well as the application of pesticides and weed control.
Responsibilities include repairing sprinkler systems, keeping right-of-ways and parks free of trash and other debris, repairing ruts and maintaining grass and shrubbery to include mowing, trimming and weed eating.
Employee is directly responsible for the safety of self and indirectly responsible for the safety of co-workers and general public.
*Essential Duties and Responsibilities* (Other duties may be assigned) * Operates various types of equipment including, but not limited to, mowers, shredders, dump truck, water truck, herbicide truck; * Assists in the maintenance of city parks and right-of-ways, keeping areas free of trash and debris; * Maintains city common areas with mowers and weed eaters.
Trims trees, bushes and hedges; * Water city lawns, shrubs and trees; * Maintains regulatory signs placed in all parks; * Cleans park public facilities; * Maintain/repair sprinkler system and schedules watering; * Applies pesticides on a scheduled basis to control pests in and around all city parks and right-of-ways; * Maintains a daily log recording all chemicals utilized, location of use and all relevant information; * Maintains an inventory of chemicals and other needed supplies; * Attend classes and obtain certification to apply chemical products; * Provides technical information such as explaining the chemicals used and jobs performed in a daily log; * Responsible for the proper and safe handling of a variety of toxic substances; * Assists in the installation and maintenance of streets, alleys, drainage ditches, city parks and other facilities; * Installs traffic control devices (signs and pavement markings); * Direct traffic following safety protocol in construction zones; * Repairs fences, gates, walls and concrete sidewalks; * Perform preventive maintenance routinely on vehicles and equipment and report any necessary repairs to vehicle maintenance; * Rotating “On Call” standby duty required for emergency situations and weekend maintenance of City parks and streets; * Performs other duties and fulfills responsibilities as required by the Streets Superintendent and Director of Public Works; * The City expects all employees to be customer-service oriented and to work safely, cooperatively and pleasantly with other City employees and with the general public *Other Duties* Please note this job description is not designed to cover or contain a comprehensive listing of all activities, duties or responsibilities that are required of the employee for this job.

Days and hours of work are Monday through Friday, 8:00 a.

Evening and weekend work are also required as needed.
Overtime is required upon demand.
Must be available for rotating 24 hour, 7 days per week rotating standby duty.
*Travel* An employee in this position may be required to drive a vehicle to various meetings, functions, and events; may be required to travel out of town to represent the City at meetings, conferences and for training.
