*Position:*
Reporting to the CEO/Superintendent and serving as an integral member of the Senior Leadership Team, the Vice President (VP) of Communications will be responsible for the development of Great Hearts Texas communication strategies and will contribute to the organizational strategic planning process.
The VP of Communications will develop a world-class communications plan for Great Hearts Texas, directly managing communications activities that promote, enhance, and protect the organization’s brand reputation.
The VP of Communications will be responsible for the development, integration, and implementation of a broad range of external and internal communications relative to the strategic direction and positioning of the organization, schools, and leadership.
This individual will be an ambassador for the organization and build relationships with external and internal stakeholders.
The goal is to advance the organization’s position with relevant constituents, as well as to drive broader awareness and donor support for the organization.
The VP of Communications will be responsible for Great Hearts Texas varied and integrated communications products and services and is responsible for managing internal and external communications, as well as research, development and implementation of the annual marketing vision and strategic plan.
The VP of Communications serves as the key communicator for public relations, crisis situations, and advocacy efforts focused on and/or impacting Texas as well as the newsletters and other print publications, web, and other online communications.
*Primary Relationships: *The position works closely with the CEO/Superintendent, the Great Hearts Texas Senior Leadership team, department leaders, and academy leaders.
This position also coordinates and ensures alignment in charting the direction of the organization’s communication efforts, assuring accountability to all constituencies, and ensuring its effective operation.
*Essential Duties & Responsibilities:* * Creates, implements, and measures the success of external and internal communications.
* Collaborates with the CEO/Superintendent, Senior Leadership Team, Enrollment Team, and campus-based communicators to ensure consistent communication of image and branding in Texas is aligned to the Great Hearts Texas mission.
* Plays a key leadership role in the planning, managing, and executing of projects and activities related to the organization’s marketing efforts and events that engage a multitude of target audiences: faculty, staff, scholars, staff, board members, alumni, donors, elected officials, families, and members of the community.
* Collaborates on enrollment marketing strategies, partners with an external firm to develop and implement advertising campaigns, develop metrics to measure success.
* Supports the enrollment team with lead generation and fulfillment strategies and processes.
* Develops processes to improve efficiency and ensures a streamlined communication channel with families, employees, board members and community members in the Texas region.
* Copywrites, advises and reviews regional and network-wide messages for/with Texas’ CEO/Superintendent, Senior Leadership Team, Executive Directors, Headmasters, Department Leaders.
* Coordinates with home office leaders, academy headmasters, enrollment team, and academy communication leads to ensure alignment of print and electronic materials related to outgoing communications.
* Serves as the public relations gateway / point of contact / approver for all Texas campuses.
* Leads all Communication projects and scheduled, or as assigned, such as cause-related messaging.
* Plans and executes board structure improvement projects with the CEO/Superintendent.
* Supports the CEO/Superintendent and Senior Leadership Team ensuring a VIP stewardship communication cycle with all board members, to include campus tours and other cultivation/stewardship touchpoints.
*Communications Strategy, Vision, and Leadership:* * Develops and implements an integrated strategic communications plan to advance Great Hearts brand identity; broaden awareness of its programs and priorities; and increase the visibility of its programs across key stakeholder audiences.
* Creates marketing and communication strategies that will allow Great Hearts Texas leadership to cultivate and enhance meaningful relationships with targeted, external audiences, including prospective families, teachers, staff, and financial supporters.
* Identifies challenges and emerging issues faced by the organization.
Work with the Senior Leadership team and staff to recognize internal and external communications opportunities and solutions and define and execute appropriate strategies to support them.
* Serve as communications counselor to Great Hearts Texas’ leadership.
*Organizational Strategy:* * Works with Senior Leadership, other staff, and volunteers to develop and maintain a strategic perspective that is focused on constituent needs, constituent satisfaction, and effective organizational program services to ensure the overall health and vitality of Great Hearts Texas.
* Ensures that all communications reflect the Great Hearts philosophy, mission, and vision, and are pertinent and practiced throughout the organization.
* Develops and coordinates means to seek regular input from the Great Hearts Texas’ key constituencies regarding the quality of programs and services.
* Helps formulate and administer policies to ensure the integrity of Great Heart Texas’ brand.
* Functions as an internal consultant to bring attention and solutions to institutional priorities.
*Communications Operations:* * Oversees the development of all Great Hearts Texas print communications including marketing collateral and electronic communications including Great Hearts Texas website content and new media; manage relationships with associated vendors.
* Serves as a spokesperson and lead point person on media interactions that help promote and/or impact the organization.
* Exercises judgment to prioritize communication requests and manage multiple projects with multiple internal and external relationships.
* Manages the day-to-day activities of the communications function including budgeting, planning and staff development.
*Planning and Budgeting:* * Develops short- and long-term plans and budgets for marketing, communications, public relations, and related activities, monitoring progress, assuring adherence, and evaluating performance along the way.
* Develops, implements, and monitors systems and procedures necessary for the smooth operations of external and internal communications.
* Keeps informed of developments in the fields of communications, enrollment marketing, public relations, not-for-profit management and governance, and the specific business of Great Hearts Texas and uses this information to help the Organization operate with initiative and innovation.
*Qualifications:* * Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, marketing, or related field is required, an advanced degree is preferred.
* Minimum 10 years of experience in a senior management role either in-house or with an agency.
* Extensive successful writing and editing experience (externally focused) with a variety of print and online communications media.
* Demonstrated experience and leadership in managing a comprehensive strategic communication, media relations, and marketing program to advance an organization’s mission and goals.
* A minimum of five years of experience in planning, writing, editing, and production of newsletters, press releases, annual reports, marketing literature, and other print publications and directories.
* Innovative thinker, with a history for translating strategic thinking into action plans and output.

* Superior management skills: ability to influence and engage direct reports and peers.
