Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for general to complex secretarial or clerical duties; prepares complex reports; maintains computerized files; assists with budget preparation; maintains employee personnel records; and performs related duties as required.
This position is not covered under Civil Service
Duties and Responsibilities
Prepares and types moderately complex letters and memos utilizing a personal computer, typewriter and/or word processor
Maintains statistics and develops complex reports
Maintains and updates personnel records such as attendance
Assists with budget preparation and other related accounting functions
Enters and updates data in a personal computer or CRT utilizing spreadsheet or database applications
Answers telephone, routes calls and takes messages utilizing discretion and tact
Develops and maintains files
Copies information and distributes to appropriate location
Responds to general and complex questions and complaints regarding department or work
May supervise, lead or train administrative or clerical support personnel
May order and maintain supplies
May open and distribute mail
Performs related duties as required
Minimum Qualifications
Graduation from High School or a General Education Development (GED) certificate, and three (3) years administrative experience in an office environment; or equivalent combination of education and experience
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation from the Bexar Criminal District Attorney's Office.
Good knowledge of English spelling, grammar and punctuation; good knowledge of office procedures
Skill in operating a personal computer, typewriter and other office equipment
Ability to accurately enter data and file information; ability to work independently; ability to organize, compile and record information accurately; ability to operate personal computer and basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees and the general public
Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance from the Bexar County District Attorney's Office
Must clear a pre-employment physical
May be required to work more than 40 hours during the workweek
Working Conditions and Physical Demands:
Physical requirements include lifting/carrying 10 lbs.
occasionally; visual acuity, speech and hearing; hand and eye coordination and manual dexterity necessary to operate computer keyboard and basic office equipment.
Subject to carrying, lifting, twisting and reaching to perform essential functions
Working conditions are inside in an office environment.
In the Sheriff's Department, working conditions are in an office within a jail environment
