The Promesa Academy Principal in Residence program is a one- or two-year locally operated residency that prepares future principals in adaptive, technical, and managerial skills necessary to lead a Promesa campus as either a Successor or a Founder.
Participants in the one-year program are on a fast track to become a Successor at their placement school or a Founder in a community they will help establish.
Those in the two-year program are placed with Mentor School Leaders.
Principal-in-Residents (PIRs) are integral members of their residency school leadership teams, engaging daily in activities that develop the skills and competencies required to lead high-performing schools.
Their role initially mirrors that of an Assistant Principal, focusing on coaching, developing teachers, teacher leaders, and deans, and contributing to the school's academic and cultural vision.
