Location: Encino Park ES Work Schedule: 182 Days Work Type: Regular Full-Time Exempt: No Pay Grade: I3 REASONS TO JOIN NEISD **IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING CALCULATION OF PAY: The annual pay for this position is pro-rated based on the effective date of the assignment IMPORTANT INFORMATION REGARDING OPTIONS FOR PAY (for employees who work 215 days or less ONLY) Click here for more information EDUCATION : High School Diploma or Equivalent Completion of forty-eight (48) college hours at an accredited college or university and/or possess an Associate's Degree or higher from an accredited college or university (Required for employment in Title I schools only) One month related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience Training in behavior management and restraint techniques as prescribed by the District CERTIFICATION : Paraprofessional Certification as required by the State Board and the District, Spanish Fluency required for ECSE/ALE Linguistic Support only High School Diplomas and college/university degrees must be obtained from an accredited program or university approved by the United States Department of Education and the Texas Education Agency.
PRIMARY PURPOSE SUMMARY : Help meet the physical and instructional needs of individual students with disabilities inside and outside the classroom.
Assist with the implementation of Individual Education Plans (IEP), including self help, behavior management and instruction programs.
Work under general supervision of principal and immediate direction of certified teacher.
Paraprofessionals may provide instruction provided they are working under the direct supervision of a "highly qualified teacher" (Title I Schools Only).
IDEA-B FORMULA FEDERAL FUNDED POSITION The purpose of IDEA-B is to provide special education and related services to children with disabilities ages 3-21.
The regulations implementing IDEA-B define the purpose of the act as a means to do the following: • Ensure that all students with disabilities have available a free, appropriate public education (FAPE) that includes special education and related services to meet their unique needs.
• Ensure that the rights of students with disabilities and of their parents are protected.
• Assist states and localities in providing for the education of all students with disabilities.
Assess and ensure the effectiveness of efforts to educate those students.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1.
Helps meet individual needs of students with disabilities by providing appropriate physical and academic support.
2.
Transfers students to and from wheelchairs, lifts/positions, signs or interprets instructions for them.
3.
Helps students take care of physical needs and personal care including feeding, bathroom needs and personal hygiene.
4.
Assists assigned students throughout the school day, inside and outside the classroom - may include lunchroom, bus and playground duty.
5.
Helps manage the behavior of assigned students.
6.
Intervenes in crisis situations and, using approved techniques, physically restrains disruptive students as needed.
7.
Actively pursues running children in order to maintain student control, safety and well-being.
8.
Conducts instructional exercises assigned by the teacher.
9.
Assists in the implementation of modifications and accommodations for students with disabilities.
10.
Provides support to students in various areas as directed by the teacher.
11.
Helps teacher prepare instructional materials and classroom displays.
12.
Helps maintain a neat and orderly classroom.
13.
Helps with inventory, care and maintenance of equipment.
14.
Helps teacher keep records and prepares required reports as directed by the teacher.
15.
Provides orientation and assistance to substitute teachers.
16.
Assumes responsibility for learning and adapting to each student's special medical, physical, communicative, academic and/or emotional needs.
17.
Keeps teacher informed of special needs or problems of individual students.
18.
Participates in professional development programs, faculty meetings and special events as assigned.
19.
Maintains confidentiality of information.
20.
Reports to work on time every day.
QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS: • Successful completion of a pre-employment physical examination and drug testing • Ability to lift 100 pounds with assistance * • Ability to work well with children • Ability to work with children with disabilities • Ability to speak effectively before groups of customers or employees of organization • Ability to follow verbal and written instructions and to communicate effectively PHYSICAL DEMANDS: The physical demands described here are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this job.
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand; walk; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
The employee frequently is required to sit and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
The employee is required to walk or run to maintain control of students.
The employee is regularly required to lift and/or move up to 100 pounds with assistance.
This position requires the lifting of students.
Specific vision abilities required by this job close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, depth perception, and ability to adjust focus.
The individual must pass a pre-employment physical examination to include vision, hearing, alcohol and drug testing.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
