PRIMARY PURPOSE:
Provides informative and collaborative college advisement to assigned students as well as guiding them within their chosen courses of study and assists student in the successful transition from secondary to post-secondary education.

QUALIFICATIONS:
Minimum Education/Certification:
Post-Secondary experience in the field of collegiate advisement
Master’s degree in Counseling and Guidance, Clinical or Counseling Psychology, Rehabilitation Counseling, Social Work or related field from an accredited university, preferred
Valid Texas counseling certificate or administrator’s certificate, preferred
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Knowledge of career development
Excellent organizational, communications, and interpersonal skills
Ability to instruct students and manage their behavior
Ability to present information in one-on-one, small group, and large group situations to students, parents, and district staff
Minimum Experience:
Two to four years of experience in the field of collegiate admissions and financial aid advisement or other relevant experience.
MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:
Maintains up-to-date knowledge and disseminates information to students regarding University policies, course/ degree options, program admissions criteria and degree completion requirements.
Interprets standardized test results and assessment data such as the PSAT, SAT, ACT and TSI to guide students in individual goal setting and planning.
Complies with established federal and state laws, State Board of Education rules, and with all district board policies.
Develops, provides and coordinates presentations for orientations, trainings, university events and activities regarding academic advising, retention initiatives, mentoring and academic success through collaboration with University Recruiters.
Teaches students strategies related to academic planning and monitoring, major selection, and academic success and provides career guidance to assist students in self-evaluation and choosing a major in relation to their career and life goals.
Provides standard supports to student including, support with the submission of forms for completeness as well as researching complex student inquiries.
Informs students, parents, staff and other stakeholders of educational programs, expected outcomes, student services, and financial considerations.
Maintains detailed knowledge of regulations, eligibility, and documentation requirements concerning financial aid, admissions, and registration and how to research updates and other applicable guidance.

Provides detailed knowledge and assistance in the completion of relevant and related applications including but not limited to Testing, Financial Aid, Scholarship, and Admissions.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Duty Days: 210
FISD pays $315 a month towards TRS Health Insurance.
You can earn up to 5 local and 5 state days.
