Description
Excellent opportunity for Receptionist to work with a great team of healthcare professionals in our medical office located in San Antonio.
Pediatric receptionist provides basic patient care as ordered.
Responsibilities includes, but not limited to the following:
Obtains accurate information from patients and ensures all registration forms are complete and entered in the system.
Verifies demographics and insurance information.
Prepares insurance forms and associated correspondence.
Processes insurance in an accurate and timely manner.
Follows up with insurance companies to ensure claims are paid timely and accurately.
Promotes wellness by providing patient education materials, communicating physician advice/instructions.
Fulfills environmental responsibilities as assigned that may include setting up instruments and equipment according to department protocols; cleaning exam/procedure rooms, instruments, and equipment between patient visits to maintain infection control; cleaning sterilizer according to scheduled maintenance program and keeping appropriate records; ordering, sorting, storing supplies; and restocking exam/procedure rooms.
Recognizes patient’s abnormalities or urgent problems and seeks appropriate assistance; responds appropriately to emergency codes.
Fulfills organizational responsibilities as assigned including respecting/promoting patient rights; sharing problems relating to patients and/or staff with immediate supervisor.
Prepares patient charts in advance and files patient charts when completed.
Files records (letters, reports, doctor’s notes, and triage notes) in appropriate sections of patient charts and keeps patient charts in proper order
Reviews patients’ records prior to being seen before the visit begins.
Prepares for the patients’ needs during the visit, especially for checkups, consultations, and rechecks from the hospital.
Provides each patient with the proper paperwork when leaving, such as referral forms, orders, etc.
Reviews with the patients if any medications where sent to the pharmacy and which pharmacy they were sent to, if applicable.
Education
High School Diploma or General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
Experience
Minimum two years of experience in a medical practice setting.
Other Requirements
Current health records with the appropriate immunizations to work in the health care field (hepatitis B and tuberculosis) may be required.
Ability to type 30 wpm.
Performance Requirements
Knowledge
Knowledge of medical practice protocols related to operating front/back office and scheduling appointments.
Knowledge of manual/computerized scheduling systems.
Knowledge of customer service principles and techniques.
Skills
Skill in communicating effectively with physicians/clinicians about scheduling preferences.
Skill in maintaining master appointment schedule via manual or computerized means.
Skill in producing reports about appointment patterns as needed.
Abilities
Ability to multitask effectively, dealing with phone calls, in-office patients, staff, and others pleasantly.
Ability to communicate calmly and clearly with patients about appointments in all circumstances including when they are ill or have an emergency.
Ability to analyze situations and respond appropriately.
Equipment Operated
Standard office equipment with emphasis on computer hardware and software as well as telephone.
Work Environment
Medical office or reception area.
Mental/Physical Requirements
Mostly sedentary with some standing, walking, reaching.
Daily and repetitive data entry may cause nerve problems unless ergonomic techniques are used.
Periodic stress from handling many calls and patient requests.
OSHA Exposure
Category 2: Employees whose normal work routine does not include tasks that regularly involve exposure to blood, body fluids, or tissues, but whose employment may require performing occasional or unplanned Category 1 tasks.
