Business Systems Design Specialist
As a Business Systems Design Specialist on Valero’s Information Services Commercial team, design and implement enterprise business intelligence solutions around the hydrocarbon supply chain, including the marketing, supply, trading, and transportation business functions.
The reports, dashboards, and KPIs implemented will improve business processes, control costs, and increase profitability.
The primary focus will be on project work.
However, the Specialist may also be involved in supporting and improving existing business intelligence solutions.
This includes, but is not limited to, trouble-shooting, problem-solving, issue resolution, user interaction, training, defining systems scope, gathering requirements, documenting design, functional specifications & test scripts, research and fact-finding, configuration, testing, reporting, cutover, IS and business user coordination.
Responsibilities:
Perform analysis on complex business processes and recommend quality analytics and reporting solutions to meet business objectives.
Coordinate with technical developers in the design of backend solutions that support reports and dashboards.
Deploy new solutions and enhancements/fixes to the commercial business by troubleshooting, problem solving, interacting with end-users, training, defining system scope, configuration, testing, etc.
Organize and manage business user interactions including requirements gathering, testing, training and post-implementation support.
Communicate effectively through written and verbal methods.
Collaborate across the organization and with outside parties to deliver solutions.
Meet milestones and related effort/time commitments for assigned deliverables.
Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree (or higher) or foreign degree equivalent in MIS, Computer Science, Engineering, Technology, or a related field.
Five (5) years of business reporting/consulting experience, which includes the following responsibilities:
With regard to business reporting:
Developing a deep understanding of intricate business processes within the organization to uncover insights and opportunities for improvement.
Collaborating closely with stakeholders to elicit and comprehend complex business requirements for analytical reporting.
Conducting thorough analyses of existing processes, identifying bottlenecks, inefficiencies, and areas for enhancement.
Translating nuanced business needs into detailed and precise specifications, guiding the technical team in crafting sophisticated analytical solutions.
With regard to consulting:Participating actively in cross-functional discussions, to ensure alignment between business objectives and technical capabilities.
Proactively seeking opportunities to enhance reporting capabilities, offering strategic recommendations based on a comprehensive understanding of business processes.
Utilizing advanced data analysis techniques to derive meaningful insights that drive informed decision-making.
Maintaining up-to-date, detailed documentation of business processes, to promote clarity for both the business, as well as the technical team.
Advanced knowledge of data analysis tools, data visualization, developing analysis queries and procedures in SQL.
Advanced experience in SAP Analysis for Office and Web-Intelligence to create custom reports.
Experience in Software Development Life Cycles, including Design, Development and Testing.
Experience in designing and implementing BI (Business Intelligence) solutions using PowerBI.
Must be able to regularly work on a full-time onsite basis at the assigned location.
Able and willing to work on-site, in-person at the Valero San Antonio location, required.
