Come check us out! POSITION SUMMARY: This position reports directly to the Child Care Center Director and is responsible for food service for the childcare program in accordance with the U.
S.
Department of Agriculture (USDA) Child and Adult Care Food Program (CACFP.
) The Childcare Cook develops shopping lists, calculates amounts of food, prepares and serves food, and organizes and cleans kitchen according to the health department standards.
On occasion, this position is responsible for providing on-site day care services to all children assigned to their care in compliance with all Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services (TDPRS) and Blue Skies of Texas policies and procedures.
GENERAL REQUIREMENTS: Must be at least 21 years of age.
Must possess excellent customer service skills and be able to speak, read, write, and follow verbal and written instructions in English.
Incumbent must display tact and courtesy and patience when dealing with children, parents, and residents of Blue Skies of Texas, as well as maintain a professional demeanor when interacting with co-workers, supervisors, and all others.
Must possess strict honesty and integrity and be even-tempered, self-motivated, and address and promptly report areas of concern and safety issues to the Child Care Center Director.
EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Required: High school diploma or equivalent.
Food service experience preferred.
CACFP knowledge preferred.
Experience in a licensed childcare facility preferred.
Successful completion of Texas DFPS Licensing Division Background Check.
EQUIPMENT AND COMPUTER OPERATIONS: Working knowledge of various and incumbent with work-related equipment to ensure safety and proper operation during use.
CERTIFICATES, LICENSES AND REGISTRATIONS: Possess current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation and First Aid certifications.
Possess or will be willing to obtain within 30 days of hire Food Handlers Certification for Managers.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepares weekly shopping list that supports nutritional and budget guidelines.
Prepares snack and lunches; serves children during mealtimes.
Cleans and maintains kitchen area in a sanitary, safe and organized manner as required by the Center and health department.
Attends the workplace regularly as per the defined work schedule and reports to work punctually.
Completes all required training and professional development sessions.
Becomes familiar with and abides by standards set forth by the HHSC CCR regarding childcare programs.
Maintains temperature log of freezer and refrigerator.
INTERNAL CONTROL: Within the scope of position duties, responsible for seeing that operations are effective and efficient, assets are safeguarded, and applicable laws, regulations, policies and procedures are complied with.
This position may handle confidential information and must treat such with appropriate sensitivity.
PHYSICAL AND ENVIRONMENTAL DEMANDS: Work is generally performed indoors in a climate-controlled setting; however, outdoor activities with the children are performed, weather permitting.
Bending, squatting, standing, stooping, kneeling, reaching, and walking are necessary, as well as occasionally lifting up to 50 pounds.
Use of heating elements for cooking.
Use of sharp food preparation utensils.
WORK SCHEDULE: Core work hours are from 8:30- AM to 5:00 PM, Monday through Friday; however, shift schedule needs, to include accommodating for special projects, or assignments may require working additional hours to include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and holidays.
WORK LOCATION: Child Care Center, located in Freedom House on the Blue Skies of Texas West campus.
ATTIRE AND DRESS CODE: Childcare Food Specialist is required to wear the appropriate uniform which will consist of any color of polo shirt (except white) and jeans or slacks (no white) It should be taken into account the need to work closely with infants and children, both indoors and outdoors, the potential to encounter messy art projects and during times of cleaning and sanitizing.
