_Suburban School is a nature-based preschool operating across 6 acres for young children to explore and learn how to become independent, caring individuals.

*As a camp counselor, you'll supervise and ensure the safety and well-being of the children while providing a fun and nurturing environment.
* *Your goal will be to always remain alert to the needs of the children as individuals and as a group.

*\*\*The hours for this position would be 8:30 a.
m to 5:30 p.
m.
with a lunch break from noon to 2:00 p.
m.
This is a seasonal position from June to August.

*Responsibilities:*
* *Keeping campers happy and engaged is the main duty of each counselor.
* *All children must be supervised at all times.
* You must participate and be active in their games and projects; you are to instruct and facilitate.
Play on the level for your group and always encourage good sportsmanship, etc.
*Your enthusiasm and attitude are reflected in the behavior of the children*.
* *Counselors will suit up and actively assist the head swim instructor during morning swim lessons.
* Be sensitive to less advanced children.
Be encouraging; help make it fun and interesting.
* Remember the campers’ *safety *and *happiness* is the most important part of your job.
Be sensitive to the children’s feelings and injuries.
* Discipline is to be consistent and fair.
Use verbal encouragement and prompting, redirection, and short time-outs.
* Please watch your language and use good judgment.
Consider how children interpret what you say to them or others.
Your tone of voice and attitude are important.
* *Report all injuries* as they happen and know how to handle emergencies calmly.
Make out an accident report to send home.
* Relate to other persons with courtesy, respect, and patience (children, parents, co-staff, etc).
Work cooperatively with other staff persons.
*Teamwork!*
* Follow the monthly calendar of events and activities.
* All staff will be assigned certain cleaning duties to be done daily.
* Staff meetings will be held monthly before field days.
All counselors are expected to attend and help prepare for field days.
* Comply with applicable universal precautions and infection control guidelines and procedures.

*Minimum Qualifications:*
* Experience and/or training in childcare *preferred.

* Demonstrated ability to follow directions, make sound judgments, and be reliable.
* Exhibit a sincere interest in working with children and be knowledgeable regarding children's development and growth.
* Be sensitive and mature and able to relate well to both children and adults.
* Physical constraints required include the ability to hear the conversational voice, with or without a hearing aid, the ability to see and read newsprint with or without corrective lenses, to speak and be understood under normal circumstances, to lift and carry children and other items weighing up to 50 pounds, and the use of arms, hands, legs, and feet with or without corrective devices to accomplish the job, including evacuation of the building during emergencies.
