I have on offer today a late 1800's hand crafted ( oak?) beautifully detailed roll top desk with an overall solid feel and appearance like it'll out last us all.
It has 3 pieces the two drawer sections and main rolltop desktop with placement pegs that align up to set into it's regular usable state.
While it is in overall excellent condition especially for 135yrs young,it does have 3 minor issues - one blemish, no key to its roll top lock, and the rolltop slide itself needs to be oiled and after it's moved the track itself will need to be checked for any alignment issues that might have loosened it up/tightened it up cause either binding or track being just all catawbas, during travel though these issues are fixable the blemish is a 2 inch piece of wood came off prior to my ownership on the right side outer rolltop where the slide meets desktop which we have the original piece in one of the drawers and can either give you number of the restorations guy we use whom also can get lock rekeyed or new old installed properly or just leave it be.
I'm asking $600 which is the absolute best deal I can make and it's less the $400 ( adjusted for inflation) than was paid over a decade ago.
I wouldn't sell it if I didn't have to buy I'm having to both downsize and pay medical bills.
* To future owner -this piece is fairly solid, making it also fairly heavy I can help load if you are picking up but you'll still need an extra set of hands to move safely I also can deliver upon request I do ask for a handling and fuel extra of $45 anywhere in San Antonio within 1604,anywhere within Bexar county for $55 - any farther will have to be discussed.
If asking price is met I have a few things that I am happy to add with desk including am 1880s catalog that I discovered trapped in a awkward placement in the back in the sliders rear housing and also a German ( Im guessing) manual of some sort.
But neat finds overall if you want them of course.
If interested I can be reached anytime at 210 331 4two10 *I will be adding more pics asap trouble adjusting it by myself **I do have some of its history but there are gaps including unfortunately it's original maker though I'm sure they can be found with further research if even interested i had to have my restorations guy and couple of antique/ appraiser friends help to figure out it's age.
It is truly an amazing piece and I've enjoyed it for 17yrs+ and hope it gets to a new home that can utilize as I and many before have, please let know if interested and thank you!
