Job Summary
Under general supervision, is responsible for technical skilled work in the installation, repair, and maintenance of electrical traffic signal control equipment and devices.
Working conditions are primarily outside with frequent exposure to temperature extremes, traffic construction dust; damp/wet surfaces, overhead power lines, high noise, and electrical hazards.
Exercises no supervision.

, Monday - Friday; may require weekends, nights, and early mornings Essential Job Functions Troubleshoots, repairs, upgrades and maintains traffic signal equipment.
Implements scheduled comprehensive traffic signal preventive maintenance activities.
Provides response maintenance for traffic signal equipment in response to malfunctions resulting from vehicle crashes, weather events, vandalism, power outages or other uncontrollable phenomenon.
Exercises technical expertise identifying equipment malfunction, developing corrective measures and adequately executing them.
Ensures all work performed is completed and in compliance with City and industry standards.
Prepares truck for daily operation, frequently lifting and carrying equipment weighing 25 pounds.
Provides periodic updates on all assigned traffic signal maintenance activities.
Documents all work performed in the field and in the shop and submits reports to supervisors.
Performs administrative duties as required by the section.
Uses pavement saw to cut grooves for placement of imbedded loops.
Operates hi-ranger bucket truck during signal repair or installation of new signals.
Pulls wiring through conduits.
Performs minor maintenance on equipment and tools.
Assembles all signal hardware.
Utilize traffic signal tools and equipment to install overhead guy wire and underground cable.
Performs work related to the installation or repair of traffic control equipment.
Installs meter loops, conduits, and signal controller cabinets.
Troubleshoots electrical signal equipment to diagnose problems.
Builds concrete foundations for controller cabinets.
Assembles all signal hardware.
Maintains an inventory of equipment and supplies needed for signal maintenance and installation.
Prepares reports of work performed.
Performs related duties and fulfills responsibilities as required.
Job Requirements High school diploma or GED equivalent (recognized by the Texas Education Agency or a regional accrediting agency).
Two (2) years of experience in electrical or electrical construction trades.
Valid Class 'B' CDL Texas Commercial Driver's License, or obtain license within six (6) months of employment.
Preferred Qualifications IMSA Traffic Signals Level 1 or higher.

If required for the position, a physical, motor vehicle record evaluation, and additional background checks may be conducted.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Knowledge of materials, procedures, and practices used in the construction, maintenance and repair of traffic signal equipment.
Knowledge of electrical maintenance procedures and practices.
Skill in utilizing all the tools and equipment necessary in the installation and maintenance of traffic signals.
Ability to communicate clearly and effectively.
Ability to use safety practices when performing electrical repairs and working in moving traffic conditions.
Ability to provide training to Traffic Signal Technician I's.
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with City staff and the general public.
Ability to perform all the physical requirements of the position, with or without accommodations.
