Summary
Under general direction, is responsible for covering a wide variety of pressing governmental topics, manages the logistics of events, visibility, client management, vendor management, audience development, dissemination activities for civic activities for Bexar County.
Coordinates all aspects of civic activities to include meetings, symposia, speakers and or any special events.
Coordinates and assists in managing communications, visibility, marketing and development of plans including key messages, publication coordination, and other similar activities.
Provides executive level administrative support to include calendar management, meeting management, public information requests, assistance in agenda pre and post meeting follow-up and reporting; and performs other duties as required This position is excluded from Civil Service Duties and Responsibilities Build and maintain relationships with community members, key stakeholders, and partner organizations through community outreach.
Develops and executes internal and external communication plans for the various departments, programs, and initiatives Coordinates and leads specific civic communication projects, programs and engagements within a given timeframe; strengthen civic relationships, provide senior level customized communication plans and material Collaborates and integrates with offices and departments all communication, public relations, media and social relations with staff Plans and manages events from start to finish, including logistics management, client and vendor management, content development, speaker managements, audience development and post-event reporting Provides exceptional communication service by anticipating needs and proactively addressing items Provides pre and post-event reporting and follow-up campaigns for all assigned projects and civic engagements Assists in content development and provide feedback on proposed events, projects, and programs with topics, research, invitations, overviews and event management Collaborates with internal and external teams to determine events marketing, strategy and development and deploy communications to target specific constituencies and communities Provides on-site support for all events, programs and engagements and provide any additional support as needed Contributes to print publications, advertising, video, presentations, and coordinate with all offices and departments Coordinates the various Open Records requests with the Public Information Officer and the District Attorney Performs executive level administrative support as required Performs other related duties as required Minimum Qualifications Graduation from an accredited college or university with a Bachelor's Degree in Public Relations, Communication, Journalism, Public Administration or related field, and three (3) years of professional experience in public relations, public affairs, media relations, or planning; or an equivalent combination of education and experience Considerable knowledge and experience in public information, social media and implementation of complex communication plans and projects for a large organization Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously; ability to coordinate representatives from various departments for presentations; ability to research and prepare informative and comprehensive articles and reports; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with coworkers, Elected/Appointed Officials, Department/Division Heads, County employees, government agencies and the general public Strong communication skills, including experience producing content for various types of media Skill in communicating effectively with diverse groups of individuals utilizing tact and diplomacy; skill in analyzing complex legal documents and reporting information; skill in managing multiple projects simultaneously; skill in operating a personal computer and presentation software Ability to adjust to rapidly fluctuating situations; ability to communicate both verbally and in writing; ability to assess legal documents and requirements; ability to operate basic office equipment; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers, County employees, Department Heads, Elected/Appointed Officials, attorneys, outside organizations, news media, and the general public Must secure and maintain a favorable background investigation and clearance Must secure and maintain a pre-employment physical May be required to work more than 40 hours during the work week Preferred Knowledge and Experience: Emergency management standards (National Incident Management System/Incident Command System) NIMS certification (IS 100 An Introduction to the Incident Command System, IS0029.
a Public Information Officer Awareness, and IS700 An Introduction to the National Incident Management System) or commitment to take training within 60 days of hire.
Emergency response communications as part of local, state, or federal agencies, including law enforcement as part of a Joint Information Command.
